Not Good

Something Terrible has happened in the last few years:

I've begun to appreciate cute shoes.

I could blame Michael, who rented me "In Her Shoes" a few years ago when I was sick. I could blame Jennifer Weiner, who wrote the book upon which the movie was based. But I think I should place the blame squarely on the actual culprit:

Estrogen.

Fortunately for everyone, I have a job that requires sneakers. But rest assured, Wes' wedding (if I get an invite) will require New Shoes. And I will have lots of fun shopping for them.

Well, keep in mind that I currently own two pairs of high heels total -- and one of those pairs is in the "for garage sale" box in our basement. The majority of my shoe collection consists of sneakers that were worn for work until the support gave out, and I can't stand the thought of throwing away otherwise perfectly good shoes.

When you say "liking cute shoes" do you mean just liking cute shoes, or are you sort of pointing at the whole "shop for a house with enough closet space for the footwear" type of liking cute shoes? I ask because the former isn't really a problem, and the cuteness of shoes isn't the problem in the latter (where the real problem is that too many closets are too small).

Confession-- Shoes are something I really wish I could like. I'd be all over cute shoes if I didn't have stubby skis for feet. And if I were a girl. They don't make cute shoes for guys.

Actually, I mean "not good" in the sense that I never *wanted* to be "one of those girls" who liked shoes. When I was a kid, my mom would constantly be on the lookout for cute shoes (and accompanying purses) and not liking shoes -- especially heels -- was the perfect rebellion. Now I see that my mom isn't completely nuts on the topic of accessories and, dammit! I don't like it.

Looking for a house on the basis of its shoe-storing capacity would be insane. Were I to look for a new house, I would be more worried about making sure there was a place for the goats (pygoras, to be exact) that would be gotten shortly after we moved in.

Relatively new interest of mine, too, though I'm too poor to invest much in it. I've been looking for new, comfortable, cute shoes for work (my options are currently very limited or very uncomfortable); but decent, cute shoes in NZ start at $139 and kinda leap up in price from there. And unless fashions have changed while I've been gone, the average U.S. brands of clothing/shoes definitely have more taste than the average Kiwi brands, so it's really hard to find things that I'd wear long-term or that even fit.
